Hourglass Guantlets

Solid plate hand protection developed during the 14th C. Decoration varied according to the status and tastes of the owner, so these guantlets ranged from very plain to having ornamental latten (brass) trim and were sometimes even covered with velvet and decorative rivets. These gauntlets would most often be accompanied by individual fingers made of scales or small plates.

Shown below with simple brass trim and boxed knuckles. (This guantlet has an articulated "rolling" cuff that is not historical, but which is intended to allow the gauntlet to lay flat behind a shield.)
